He has a loveless, boring marriage and despite his thoughts protesting it, he became involved with the attractive hair dresser Carla, living next to them. Carla has a low level mobster boyfriend – Greg and she knows his business secrets as well as where he hides his money in the house. Carla makes a plan to steal the money and burn the house down to make her boyfriend think the money is gone in the fire and convinces Ray to take part and run away with this big amount of money to live their lives.

The temptation outweighs the fear of possible consequences and Ray says he is in. To get help execute their plan they hire a man named Billy, who is supposed to burn the house once they take the money and run. But Ray gets cold feet in the last minute even though it is too late, and things start getting worse when they find out that Greg’s old mother was inside the house and she died as a result. Billy, knowing Ray’s connection to the death of the old lady and the theft of the mobster’s money is determined to use that information to get what he wants.
